Dear Fellow Revs,
Over the past few weeks, I've been getting increasingly excited about the start of the new school year and that special buzz that comes as people return to campus. All summer long, GW staff have been preparing for this moment when classrooms fill again, labs get reactivated, and campus traditions like Convocation, Welcome Day of Service, and First Night resume.
Even as we celebrate the start of this new academic year, our campus—like so many others—is facing extraordinary challenges. But our situation is unique since we make our home in the heart of the District of Columbia. The increased presence of federal law enforcement throughout the district has raised new questions from our community about how we will operate this year. In response, I’ve spent a lot of time with GW leaders and others, developing plans for how we maintain our vibrant and inclusive community at this time of uncertainty and disruption.
That's why it's so good we're finally all back here together so that we can support each other as we navigate this highly dynamic situation. And it’s important to remember that in the midst of uncertainty, there is also joy. The regular rhythm of the semester has already started. Students are moving into residence halls, our athletes are taking the field, our artists are on stage and in the studio, and as always, GW’s outstanding faculty and staff are here guiding and encouraging them.
To our students, faculty, and staff: you are the heartbeat of GW, and I am grateful to be standing side by side with you as we support each other and celebrate one another’s successes. Together, we will move forward as OneGW, with courage, conviction, and optimism.
My best wishes for a successful fall semester!
Raise High!
