Update Regarding Department of Justice Inquiry

January 8, 2026

GW Tempietto

Dear Members of the GW Community,

As we have previously shared with you, on August 12, GW received a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice concerning its investigation of antisemitism at GW. In our response, we sought a meeting with them to present information demonstrating our commitment to preventing antisemitism.

On Tuesday, January 6, this meeting took place, and it afforded GW an opportunity to present the full array of measures the university has undertaken in this regard. Prior to the meeting, we notified members of the Board of Trustees, as well as the leaders of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, the Student Government Association, and the Staff Council, that it was occurring.

There is no further information to share at this time. We will provide updates to the community as we are able to do so; however, as we have said in the past, sometimes there are legal or business reasons why certain information may not be shared. We will, however, share what we can, as soon as we can.

Most important, let me reiterate that antisemitism has no place at GW, and we continue our efforts to support our Jewish community and to combat all forms of hate and discrimination. This work will continue to be a major priority at GW.

Sincerely,

Ellen M. Granberg
President
