Dear Members of the George Washington University Community,
Today marks an important milestone in the development of GW’s Strategic Framework. After months of thoughtful collaboration across our university, we are pleased to share a draft of our strategic framework for community review and feedback.
First and foremost, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the hundreds of community members who have engaged in this process so far. Your participation in community conversations, creation of idea briefs, and other thoughtful feedback have been invaluable in shaping the framework to date. The community’s engagement reflects our shared passion and commitment and is one of many reasons that GW stands among the nation’s most distinguished universities. Special thanks go to the Innovation and Steering Committees for their thorough work, which was critical in moving this process forward.
From the wide-ranging feedback we received, we heard your desire to be ambitious, to create an environment that will allow creativity and innovation to flourish, and to enhance our distinctiveness and impact. Based on this input and the recommendations of the Innovation Committee, the Steering Committee has worked throughout the Spring 2025 semester to synthesize the four core themes identified in the fall into three overarching institutional priorities and associated goals that address our collective aspirations.
As we move forward, the framework will continue to depend on the collective wisdom and energy of us all. We invite you to view and comment on the draft framework here. All feedback must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Monday, May 5, 2025.
To learn more about the framework and ask questions directly to Steering Committee members, we invite you to join one of three upcoming Community Briefings, open to all faculty, students, and staff.
After we gather feedback, we will present an updated draft to the Board of Trustees for their review and approval, with an official launch planned for Fall 2025.
GW's new strategic framework embodies our community’s shared vision and priorities, and we look forward to joining you as OneGW—aligned in support of our mission and resolved to achieve our highest aspirations. Together, we will enhance our impact as a preeminent university in the heart of the nation's capital while creating unique experiences—both inside and outside the classroom—that empower the next generation of leaders, changemakers, and Revolutionaries.
Thank you for your continued partnership in shaping GW's future.
Sincerely,
Ellen M. Granberg
