Dear Members of the George Washington University Community,
The university recently learned that disturbing and profane posters were displayed on the Foggy Bottom campus, including at the GW Hillel building. The posters included antisemitic language and caused distress among members of our community. We acknowledge the hurt and harm felt by many members of the Jewish community, particularly given this occurred following Yom Kippur.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident, and the posters, many of which were on District property, have since been removed.
GW strongly condemns antisemitism and all forms of hatred, discrimination, and bias. We are committed to encouraging respectful and civil discourse and fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. We will continue to work together with students, faculty, and staff in striving for this environment each day.
All of us deserve to feel safe at our university and to live without fear of harassment, hostility, or marginalization. For those seeking support, please know that resources are available through the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement; Counseling and Psychological Services; Student Affairs; Human Resources; or Faculty Affairs.
Sincerely yours,
Mark S. Wrighton
