Next Steps in EVP/CFO Organization Transition

June 4, 2022

Dear Members of the George Washington University Community,

As you know, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mark Diaz will depart the university on June 30. Mark has built a strong team of talented leaders, and I look forward to working with them as we continue the important work that they do on behalf of the George Washington University.

Mark is taking some well-deserved leave starting on Monday, June 6, and on that date the organization associated with the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and its leadership team will report to me. Based on my meeting with the team, I am confident that we will maintain stable financial and administrative operations during this period of transition. I am eager to have more opportunities to meet with leadership and staff and discuss ideas for bolstering the organization and ensuring we continue to strengthen our university’s mission. In the weeks ahead, I will be working with the other officers of the university to develop a new administrative structure that will serve us well.

There are many talented and dedicated individuals at our university who are working every day to support our students, faculty, and fellow colleagues. I am very grateful, in particular, to our staff in areas such as compliance, finances, human resources, information technology, and safety and facilities, who have critical roles that allow us to keep our university running smoothly.

With so many committed staff members and teams in place, we are certain to continue our path as a distinguished and distinguishable university.

Sincerely yours,

Mark S. Wrighton
President
