Overview

The Humanitarian Internship Program Pilot (HIPP) offers GW students a 10-week professional internship opportunity during the summer of 2025 to contribute to global and local humanitarian efforts. This program partners with leading organizations addressing critical challenges across the humanitarian sector.

Internship placements span various focus areas, such as:

  • Communications and Community Engagement
  • Operations and Logistics
  • Data Collection and Analysis
  • Policy and Research
  • Development and Training

Participants will gain valuable experience while supporting meaningful initiatives that align with their academic and career interests.

Program Highlights

  • Application Period: January 13th, 2025, to February 4th, 2025 (or until 200 applications are received)
  • Paid Internship
  • Housing: Undergraduate students may request housing support
  • Time Commitment: 35 - 40 hours per week, 10 weeks during the summer 2025 semester

Eligibility Requirements

  • Open to currently enrolled full-time undergraduate students in the class of 2026 or 2027 and graduate students. 
  • Class of 2025 is ineligible, along with any student graduating in May 2025. 
  • Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Students must be in good standing with the university, including having a clear disciplinary record.

Program Structure

HIPP matches students with internship positions based on their skills, interests, and career aspirations. Selected participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with humanitarian organizations to address a wide range of challenges, gaining firsthand insight into the field while developing professional expertise.

As part of the program, students will also work with their respective organizations to create a poster showcasing their internship experience, contributions, and key insights. These posters will be presented at a special event at the beginning of the Fall 2025 semester, providing an opportunity for students to share their stories with the GW community and program stakeholders.
